Your privacy matters to us. tosantiago is deliberately data-minimal: no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics or tracking, and no sharing of data for advertising. Route calculation runs entirely in your browser.
The controller within the meaning of the Swiss Data Protection Act (revDSG) and – for visitors from the EU – the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the entity named in the legal notice.
Map tiles (OpenStreetMap, MapTiler, OpenTopoMap, VersaTiles) and the place search (Nominatim) are only loaded after you have agreed to the use of these external map services. No connection to their servers is made before your consent. Your decision is stored only locally in your browser (no cookie, no transfer to a server) and can be withdrawn at any time via the “Reset map consent” link in the page footer. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; revDSG).
When the website is accessed, the hosting provider automatically processes technical access data (IP address, date/time, file requested, data volume, browser and system information) for secure operation and troubleshooting. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in trouble-free operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; revDSG).

The map can be shown using tiles from several providers, switchable via the layer selector. As soon as a map is displayed, your browser sends your IP address to the currently active provider – technically necessary to deliver the tiles. When you use the search field, your search term together with your IP address is sent to the geocoding service of MapTiler AG. If no MapTiler access is configured, Nominatim of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom) is queried instead. This transfer only happens when you actively search.
Your browser's location function is only used after your explicit permission. The determined location is used solely locally in your browser (to set the start point) and is not transmitted to us.
tosantiago sets no cookies for tracking. Your browser's local storage (localStorage) only holds your settings: language, map style, the “traditional routes” option and any stages you set. These stay on your device and are not transmitted. For offline use, program and map data are cached (service worker).
Within the applicable laws you have the right to access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing and – under the GDPR – to data portability and objection. To exercise them, contact the address in the legal notice. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Switzerland: FDPIC; EU: the competent data protection authority).
The calculated routes, distances, elevation and stage figures are generated automatically from openly available data (including OpenStreetMap and publicly available GPX and KML files) and serve for orientation and planning. They may contain errors, gaps or outdated sections and do not replace an official map, on-site waymarking or your own judgement. Use is at your own risk; you are responsible for route choice, safety, weather, equipment and terrain. No warranty is given for correctness, completeness or passability.
This website uses and links to external services (including MapTiler, OpenStreetMap). Their content and data processing are the sole responsibility of the respective providers.
